Important Updates to SNZ Membership

03/07/2025
Kia ora team,
With the new financial year Swimming NZ has introduced a number of updates that affect both membership types and race entry requirements. Here’s a quick summary of what’s changing:

‍New Membership Categories

The Club Swimmer and Competitive Swimmer categories have been retired. They are now replaced with:
  • Competitive Swimmer – 12 & Under
  • Competitive Swimmer – 13 & Over
All our swimmers from Adams and up have been reassigned into one of these new categories. Your age based membership lasts from 1st July to 30th June. so even if your age changes before 30th June, you stay on the lower age band. This does not affect your competition entry and results, which are most commonly based on the age at the time of the competition.

Recreational Membership

Recreational members will now only be eligible to participate in club nights and club championships (like the Tri Series).
To ease the cost for our junior swimmers, we’ve reduced the recreational membership fee from $55 to $30.
We’re also looking to extend club nights to Carrington swimmers to offer more swimming opportunities.

Membership Fees Breakdown

The annual SNZ/Fastlane membership includes:
  • Swimming NZ (SNZ) Fee: $77
  • Swimming Bay of Plenty (SBOP) Fee: $30
  • Local Club Fee: Varies by category ($40 or $65)
To help offset the SNZ fee increase this year, the LVWA Swim Club Committee has decided to reduce the local club fee for Competitive 12 & Under swimmers from $55 to $40. This means the total cost for a Competitive 12 & Under membership is now $147 – only a $15 increase from last season.

Entering the Tri Series

  • All swimmers must enter via Fastlane and pay the annual membership fee, if applicable.
  • Carrington swimmers are classed as Recreational and will need to pay the $30 annual fee.
  • Drysdale swimmers are classed as Learn to swim and are free under SNZ*
  • Tri Series meet entry costs $10 per event, plus a small card processing fee.
* If a Drysdale or below swimmer would like to participate in a competition other than club night or a club championship, they’ll have to upgrade to one of the Competitive memberships on SNZ. This can be done by contacting the recorder@lvwasc.co.nz. We know this time of year can be financially challenging. If you have any questions or concerns, please don’t hesitate to reach out:
Thanks for being part of our swimming whānau.
See you poolside!
