Chairperson’s Highlights

Chairperson Trudy Smith emphasized the club’s vision to be a leading organization for competitive swimming. This year, LVWASC saw a 60% increase in membership, especially at the junior level, bringing the total to 441 active members. The club’s commitment to providing a supportive environment has been crucial in retaining young swimmers as they progress through their athletic journeys.

Notable Competitions and Achievements
  • National Age Group Championships (NAGs): The club had its largest team to date, achieving its highest-ever ranking (21st) and securing 5 medals.
  • NZ Short Course Championships: LVWASC ranked 20th, with over 50% of swims resulting in top 10 finishes.
  • International Trip: For the first time, LVWASC organized an international trip to Melbourne, where swimmers achieved an impressive 86.49% personal best (PB) rate.
Coaching Excellence

The club’s coaching team, including Matt Teokotai-White, Tai Daniella, and Leah Conroy, has been pivotal in developing athletes’ skills and promoting a positive culture centred around being hungry, humble, and smart.

Financial Overview

Despite facing challenges in fundraising during the last 18 months, the club managed to secure vital grants for training and competitions:

  • Grassroots Trust: $7,391 for professional dryland training.
  • Pub Charity Ltd: $5,000 for accommodation at national events.
Community Support and Volunteering

The success of LVWASC is attributed not just to its swimmers but also to the invaluable support from parents and volunteers. The club now boasts approximately 100 volunteers, contributing to various roles, from officials to event organization.

Looking Ahead

As LVWASC moves into the next year, there are plans to further enhance the athlete development program, increase participation, and maintain high standards in both training and competition.
