Term Four 2019

Chairperson’s Report

Term 4 is well underway!  I’d better introduce myself for those who don’t know me.  I’m a swimmer and I have two boys who swim at LVWA: Jacob in Loader and Gabriel in Cruiser.  And you will see my husband Wayne helping out with team managing, time-keeping and anything else he is asked to do around the pool!

The Committee has been looking ahead to how we can continue supporting the coaches and swimmers over the coming months.  There’s always something for the kids to aim towards, not matter what level they are at; and it takes all of us to help them achieve their goals.

On that note, participation is such an important component of a successful club, and this is particularly true of swimming.  As a club we need to build a strong base of parents who have the skills to help at a variety of levels.  For example, we need more qualified time keepers, IOTs, other officials.  When children attend swim meets, each club needs to provide volunteers to assist in the smooth running of the event.  The best place to learn the ropes is at Club Night on 23 November.  It’s a safe environment to experience time keeping, marshalling, team manage, etc.  It would be amazing if we were able to help a number of you to learn a few things on Club Night.  It’s rewarding and fun being an active member of the Club.  We will make sure you are well looked after and supported!

We always welcome sponsors for fundraising events, and we also have a few Club trophies that need sponsoring.  For just $300 you get your business or family name on a trophy!

If you have any questions, want to sponsor a trophy, or are keen to help out, here’s my photo so you know what I look like; and we’ll have a full Committee photo ready for next newsletter.  Or email me at chair@lvwaquatics.co.nz .  Thanks!

Coach Report

Hey team! I hope everyone is as excited as us for the holiday season and warmer weather. I’m sure everyone is busy booking trips and brainstorming for gifts but remember to keep up your training and focus in a bid to stave off that Christmas puku. We have some good events coming up including the year-ending Club Night on the 23rd November.  We’d encourage as many swimmers as possible to get along and enjoy a night of pressure free racing and fun! Finally, good luck to all those swimmers who will represent the club at BOP Juniors and the Waikato Christmas Meet. Do us proud!
All the best,
LVW Coaching Team

Springs Report
At the beginning of October, a team of 8 LVW swimmers – Sarah, Chelsea, Laura, Ava, Bear, Kalani, Mason, and Jacob – competed at NZ Short Course Champs (also referred to as Springs). Of those swimmers, only Sarah had been to Springs before, so it was a great achievement in itself just to qualify and compete against the nation’s best. Highlights were:

  • Sarah breaking the BOP Record and getting gold in the 1500 Free
  • Sarah’s two silvers in the 400 and 800 Free
  • Bear getting his first medal in the 400 Free
  • 6 of the 8 swimmers getting top ten finishes and the team getting loads of PB’s

A big thanks goes to Greg Cummings for being team manager, and to all those families who helped contribute to the fundraising!

Congratulations!
A huge congratulations to Liz & Greg and all the team for being named as the winners for the 2019 Westpac Business Awards Service Excellence Award presented on Friday 8th November.
