Here’s the memo for the month of June.
Holiday Timetable
Below is the timetable for the July School Holidays. I’ll be away through Week 1 and Sam is potentially away through week 2 so we’ve had to consolidate some sessions.
BOP Relays
Congratulations to all those who came along to the BOP Relay Champs this past weekend. It was a GREAT day for us and showed real progression from the last relay champs in 2019!
That year we took 100 odd swimmers but mostly finished 3rd or 4th in events, winning none, and sat in fourth place on points behind Mount Maunganui, Swim Rotorua, and Evolution.
This year we took fewer swimmers but won quite a few events and at the halfway stage we were leading the competition by 10 points! SBOP have kept the overall winners under wraps and plan to announce it at the SBOP Prizegiving next month – but I’ve got a strong feeling that we won!
Hamilton/Taupo Meets
Awesome swimming for our teams at both events. At the Hamilton Qualification Meet our team of 8 watched live as a swimmer qualified for the Olympics (it was deafening!) and our swimmers did really well with everyone making finals and coming out to fireworks and flash lighting displays! At the Taupo XLR8 Meet we had a team of 30-odd with great results and PB’s. Among the successes was Hunter Sands getting his first NZ Short Course qualifying time!
Tri-Series Tour
Congratulations to Sarah Cummings who has been selected for the NZ Tri-Series Tour. This is a development tour where they choose 48 top swimmers from across the country to participate in ISL type swimming matches across a week. They’ll be drafted in to one of three teams and compete for supremacy! It’s an awesome opportunity, so well done to Sarah!
Hayden at the Olympics
Squad swimmer Hayden Wilde is currently overseas in his buildup to the Olympic Games for Triathlon. He just placed 5th at the World Triathlon Series in Leeds and races at the Euros this weekend. His Olympic debut will be on the 26th of July in the Individual Men’s Triathlon, and the Mixed Team Relay is on the 31st!
